MEDEMBLIK, THE NETHERLANDS-(26-5-2005) The second day at the Holland Regatta was a day filled with sunshine. Although in de afternoon the wind was weak and shifty, all races have been sailed.
In the 470 men's Fleet brothers Coster rule on home waters over many Athens 2004 competitors, currently present in Medemblik.
Team Ingrid Petitjean and Nadège Douroux (FRA) won all races today in the 470 Women and they are firmly in the lead. Marcelien de Koning en Lobke Berkhout (NED) are in second place and Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson from Autralia ended up third in the overall classification.
The winner of last year in the Laser class, Vasilij Zbogar (SLO), is again leading the Laser class after six races. Today he won the first two races and in de third race he became second. Tom Slingsby (AUS) is in second place in the overall classification and Luka Radeliæ from Croatia is in the third position.
In the Finn class Olympic Gold medallist Ben Ainslie (GBR) kept his leading position. In the first race he crossed the finish line first, in the second race he ended up in a second place. Gasper Vincec (SLO) ended up second overall and Edward Wright (GBR) is just like yesterday in the third position.
Sari Multala from Finland is leading the new Olympic class for women, the Laser Radial. She won today’s last two races. She is followed by Charlotte Dobson (GBR) and Merel Witteveen from Holland is in third position in the overall classification.
For the spectators from the Holland Regatta there was a nice surprise today. The 49ers finished twice in the harbour, which created a spectacular view. It is intended to finish in the harbour each day.
Tomorrow the first races will start at 10.00 AM. For the Laser, Laser Radial, the 470 men and women, the 49er and the Tornado are three races planned. The Finn, Yngling, Star and Mistral men and women are all sailing three races tomorrow.
